Our half day City Tour will be a very good option to experience the best of the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. In this tour we will be able to appreciate the beauty of the city of Cusco.
Together with our guide we will visit the Cathedral of Cusco, the Qoricancha or also known as the Temple of the Sun and the most important archaeological centers of the city such as Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. This tour is designed to help you acclimatize to the climate of Cusco.
Itinerary
The tour starts with the pick up between 12:45 to 13:00 from the hotel and we head towards the Main Square of Cusco, place where we will start our tour.
We start visiting:
CATHEDRAL OF CUSCO:
Built between the years 1560 and 1664 and over the Quishuarqancha ancient palace of the Inca Wiracocha, the Cathedral of Cusco is one of the most beautiful and significant monuments of America, built with huge blocks of stones brought from Sacsayhuaman this historic piece is also considered Cultural Heritage of the Nation and brings together a combination of unique features such as its Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance style.
After this visit we will go to:
QORICANCHA:
It was one of the most revered and respected temples of the city. “The golden enclosure”, as it was known, was a sacred place where the highest Inca god, INTI, was worshipped.
Afterwards, we will take our tourist transportation and we will go to the main archaeological centers located in the city of Cusco.
SACSAYHUAMAN:
The Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park is located 3 km north of the city of Cusco (Qosqo), covers approximately 3,000 hectares, is a cyclopean masterpiece of Inca architecture.
QENQO:
Located 4 kilometers northeast of the city of Cusco, it has the archaeological groups of Q’enqo Grande and Q’enqo Chico.
Etymologically, it means labyrinth or zigzag, it had a purely religious function, being found on the outside an amphitheater in a semicircular shape with trapezoidal niches and a monolith that simulates a puma which measures approximately six meters.
PUCA PUKARA:
The name Puca Pucara comes from the Quechua voices Puca, ‘red’, and pucara, ‘fortress or defended place’, so it means ‘red fortress’; the rocks with which it has been built turn reddish color with the twilight.
This fortress is an architectural construction located in the city of Cusco, thus being one of the samples of the military architecture of the Inca Empire, consisting of overlapping terraces, aqueducts, watchtowers, interior squares, walls and staircases.
TAMBOMACHAY:
Tambomachay, is located about 8 kms north of Cusco and very close to the ruins of Puka Pukara, is an archaeological site that was intended for the worship of water and for the head of the Inca Empire could rest. It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run through the rocks.
The tour ends around 18:30 pm near the main square of Cusco.
